Jack Base Modification for Bottle Jack

Here is a simple modification I made to my High Lift jack base so that I could use it with my bottle jack! Everyone knows the High Lift jack is a staple of any off road tool kit. And a great accessory to make that jack even more versatile is the High Lift jack Off-Road Base which give the jack a larger footprint. The base is great for when you need to use the jack in soft (mud, sand) or uneven (rocky) terrain.

But sometimes the High Lift isn’t the best jack for the job. That’s why I also carry a bottle jack, specifically the 8 ton bottle jack from Harbor Freight. In addition to my axle tube adapter for the jack the other thing I wanted was to be able to use the jack base with it. Unfortunately the handle sticks out just enough that the bottle jack won’t fit into the base as it is.

But the fix is super simple! I took a small section, about 1.5in wide, off each side of the vertical lip, so that the jack handle would fit. I did both sides so the base is reversible and I can’t put it down in a position that wouldn’t work for use.

I chose to take this plastic off on a mill because I had access to one, but the same modification could easily be made using a dremel. The base is made of polyethylene plastic which is a thermoplastic meaning it can remelt. So be careful with whatever method you use to remove the material and try to avoid melting the plastic.

I’ve been using this modified base for a few years now and it has shown no signs that this modification has made it less robust. Everytime I pull out this base on the trail and use it with my bottle jack people seem to really like the stability that this little modification has to offer.
